Steph has been a trailblazer for Women's AFL Football, having dominated the VWFL since 2006 for her local team, Diamond Creek. Best & Fairest Awards, All Australian Nominations, representing Victoria, and playing in each of Western Bulldog's Exhibition Games, Steph has already achieved so much in her career however she is hungry for more success.
With Women's Football hitting an all time high in popularity amongst girls throughout Junior footy, Steph is looking forward to capitalising on the opportunities that the AFLW will present. Captain of the Western Bulldogs during the Exhibition games, Steph is a fantastic leader to her teammates and uses her damaging run off the half back line to propel them into attack. These traits appealed to Collingwood as they swooped on Steph with Pick 11 of the 2016 Draft and named her as the inaugural Captain.
In what was a tricky first few seasons for the Pies as the results didn’t go to plan, Steph led her team admirably. This included being named in the All Australian squad in 2018. However the wheel has turned over the past few seasons and Collingwood has become a genuine Premiership contender, including going down to the eventual Premiers in the 2021 Preliminary Final.
Enduring back to back seasons in 2022 where once again Collingwood were around the top echelon of teams, Steph made the tough decision to join St Kilda who had rebuilt with a lot of new talent. Loving her time at Collingwood, the opportunity to experience something new in the remaining years of her career presented a really exciting challenge, whilst unselfishingly allowing Collingwood to freshen up their playing list. Steph started off 2023 well, playing the 5 games but sadly ruptured her ACL in round 6 against Hawthorn. Steph is determined to recover and get back to her best in 2023.
A school teacher at Parkdale Secondary College, Steph also coaches AFL in the Elite Sports Pathway Program. She has also had a number of Ambassador roles including being a Female Ambassador for AFL Victoria, Outside The Locker Room, Swisse, Coles, and ASICS. Steph also features in a school children's book, 'Stephanie Chiocci and the Cooper's Hill Cheese Chase'.
